Our last two stops have been at universities, and the spirit of unity is alive and well on both campuses.

Unity at Butler University
At Butler University, professors and students worked together and made deals so that students wouldn’t miss out on the event. In fact, some students were allowed to leave class and come by the event, so long as they promised to bring a Slurpee back to their professor. Hearing that really got us pumped up. But what really moved us was seeing students, who had never met before, sharing computers and phones so they could “like” Slurpee on Facebook and get their free t-shirts.
Over the past week, hundreds of people have told us what unity means to them. But there was one definition we heard time and time again: “People working together for the better”. Yesterday we arrived at SUNY – University of Albany two hours early, excited to see what the day had in store for us. Almost immediately, we were greeted by the football team as they filled up with Slurpees before going into the stadium to warm up for the game.
Next came the basketball team returning from their morning practice. One of the basketball player came down from practice in his crutches. When he struggled to serve himself, his teammates came over to help pour his Slurpee, and they even carried it back for him.
Later on, several elementary-school cheerleaders stopped-by with their parents. They were on their way to cheer their first-ever game. It was clear that they were nervous. But then, something as simple and genuinely cheerful as sharing a Slurpee seemed to wash away their fears.
When was the last time you let yourself relax and enjoy something as effortless as grabbing a Slurpee with a friend?
